The new BMW i3 utilizes an advanced electric drive system, which is very similar to the all-electric drive system of the BMW 1 Series Active-E, with a maximum output of up to 167 hp, sending power to the rear wheels.  The vehicle relies on a set of lithium-ion batteries to provide power, with a maximum range of up to 257 kilometers and a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour when fully charged.  The battery pack can also support a fast charging mode, with the battery pack taking just one hour to complete an 80 percent charge.  The BMW i3 Concept is based on the previous Mega CITY Vehicle concept and is BMW's first all-electric production small city car.  Power comes from an electric motor located on the rear axle with a maximum output of 125kW and peak torque of 250N-m.
