China's share of Russia's used passenger car imports grows more than 9-fold
Moscow, November 20 (Sputnik) - China's share in Russia's imports of used passenger cars will increase more than 9 times by 2024, Vitaly Mankevich, Chairman of the Russian Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, said at the China (Shandong)-Russia used car export matching meeting.
"In 2023, used Chinese cars imported into Russia accounted for less than 1% of the total imports of such cars, but now it exceeds 9%," Mankevich said.
He pointed out that there are several reasons for the growth. First, the number of used cars imported from Europe and the United States has decreased. Second, the logistics of importing used cars from China has become more convenient. Third, Chinese cars are cheaper than European cars in price.
According to a survey by Russian automobile market analysis agency Autostat, 65.3% of Russian owners of Chinese cars believe that the quality of Chinese-brand cars has improved.
In the first 10 months of 2024, Russia imported 38,500 used passenger cars and 111,990 new cars. Chinese brands accounted for more than 92% of Russia's new car imports.
Mankevich also pointed out that in order to promote cooperation between Russia and China in the automotive industry, the Russian Union of Asian Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and the Russian-Chinese Friendship, Peace and Development Committee established the Russian-Chinese Automobile Manufacturers Association last year.
"The association's purpose is to protect the interests of Chinese automakers in Russia and create the most favorable conditions for them," he said.
