1. Basic Information
The Republic of Tanzania (Tanzania for short) is located in eastern Africa, south of the equator, bordering Kenya and Uganda to the north, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the south, Rwanda, Burundi and Congo (DRC) to the west, and the Indian Ocean to the east. The capital is Dodoma, with a land area of about 945,000 square kilometers and a total population of 65.231 million. According to data from the International Monetary Fund, as of October 2023, Tanzania's GDP was US$84.03 billion, with a real GDP growth rate of 5.2%, and a per capita GDP of about US$1,330. In 2023, the bilateral trade volume between China and Tanzania was US$8.779 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.3%, of which China exported US$8.091 billion to Tanzania. It increased by 3.9% year-on-year; China's imports from Tanzania reached US$688 million, a year-on-year increase of 21.5%. China mainly exports mobile phones, small appliances and other electronic home appliances, machinery and equipment and parts, auto parts, building materials, shoes and boots to Tanzania; and mainly imports mineral products, sesame, cashew nuts, spices and their products, raw hides and skins (excluding fur) and leather from Tanzania.
Tanzania is rich in mineral resources and has 8 greenstone belts. The main minerals and eggs that have been proven are: diamonds, gold mines, coal, iron, phosphates, metal ores, natural gas, helium, etc. In addition to gold deposits, other mineral deposits have yet to be fully developed.

Tanzania is a right-hand country with an immature automobile industry and its automobile market is dominated by imported second-hand cars. Its new car sales have been greatly restricted by the convenience of importing second-hand cars, and have been stable at 2,000-3,000 units for many years. Tanzania’s second-hand car market is relatively large, and second-hand cars are mainly imported from Japan, the United Arab Emirates and other regions. In 2023, Tanzania imported 82,000 second-hand cars from Japan, a year-on-year increase of 14%. According to the "2022--2026 Tanzania Automobile Industry Investment Prospects and Risk Analysis Report" released by the Automobile Research Group of the Tanzania Business Department of Global Impression Investment Analysis, in order to attract more investment in the automobile industry, Tanzania used tax exemptions as business incentives last year. .

1. Import policy
Tanzania will ban the import of vehicles more than 10 years old from July 2022.
2. Tax policy
Tanzania imposes customs duties, excise taxes and value-added tax on imported used cars.
Vehicles with an engine capacity of 1000ml or less are subject to a 25% customs duty and a 20% VAT.
Vehicles with engine capacity greater than 1000ml and less than or equal to 2000ml are subject to a 25% customs duty, 20% value-added tax and 5% consumption tax.
Cars with engine capacity exceeding 2000ml are subject to 25% customs duty, 20% VAT and 10% consumption tax.
Vans/pickups/trucks/buses are subject to 15% customs duty and 20% VAT.
